L’ARCEP(Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications, Posts and Press Distribution) has just published a new, very comprehensive report. We discover the state of the telecoms market in the third quarter of 2022, just before the end-of-year holiday period where promotions probably allowed them to generate record turnover.
Unsurprisingly, the crisis is also noticeable among our access providers, since the growth of this period compared to the same the previous year only reaches here1,9 %. It's not much, but the score remains honorable, especially when we know that most players in the service sector are experiencing serious difficulties due to inflation. Butstay connected, whether via their mobile plan or an internet box at home, comes first and foremost for the French.
Fixed doesn't really appeal anymore
Among the fairly significant uses that we see with the ARCEP study, we will also note thefree fall in average monthly call consumptionby fixed subscription. From more than two hours for VLB (broadband voice) in the third quarter of 2016, the figure has fallen to just almost one hour to date. Users now prefer to use VoIP platforms or via their mobile.
Subscriptions inoptical fiber, however, are still on the rise. 17.2 million connectable addresses (i.e. more than half of those eligible) are in fact equipped. The rate of evolutionslows down slightly” compared to 2021.
Still more GB on the clock
With this, the ARCEP report tells us that the average mobile data expenditure per customer per month now reaches around 14.3 GB. This is 17% more than twelve months ago, the number having been increasing continuously for several years.5G packages, for their part, remain in the minorityand represent only ≈6% of all consumers.
As a reminder, the main operators in France are Bouygues Télécom, Orange and SFR.Free is also part of the leading quartet, moreover it is the only one to have announced that its prices would not increase before 2027 while all the others have decided to modify their invoices.This will happen shortly.
