Meta finally fixes the biggest flaw in the Threads app

This year, while X (Twitter) was causing a series of controversies, the Meta group launchedThreads, a social network linked to Instagram and whose operation is very close to that of the social network this account without deleting the linked Instagram account. Of course, Meta received a lot of criticism for this. But in a recent publication, Instagram boss Adam Messeri announced an update that corrects this problem.

If you have the latest version of Threads, you should be able to delete your account, in the social network settings, without having to delete your Instagram account. Otherwise, if you think you might change your mind, you also have the option of just deactivating your account.

Otherwise, Meta also offers a way to manage the appearance of activities on Threads on the social networks Facebook and Instagram.“We recently introduced a feature that makes it easy for users to see Threads posts directly on Facebook and Instagram, to help you grow your audience and increase your reach. We've heard feedback that you want more control over the experience. That’s why we’re rolling out a way to opt out of being featured outside of Threads […]”, we read in Mosseri's publication.

Still not available in Europe

In summary, the series of new features announced by Adam Mosseri allows for a clear separation between Threads and the other Meta platforms. However, these changes do not yet affect European users, since the platform is still not available on the continent.

For legal reasons, Meta has decided not to launch its new social network in Europe. And it even prevented European users from circumventing these restrictions.“Threads is currently not available in most countries in Europe and we have taken additional steps to prevent people based in these countries from accessing it at this time. Europe continues to be an incredibly important market for Meta and we hope to make Threads available here in the future”, the platform indicated in July.

According to official Meta figures, Threads now has more than100 million monthly active users.
