A feature that was quite popular with users of MacBooks and other Apple brand computers was Boot Camp. It made it possible to run Windows very simply and smoothly on a Mac, which can be essential for using certain software, which is the exclusive property of Microsoft's OS.
But with the release of Apple's new M1 chip in the latest MacBook Air, Pro and Mac mini, this feature seemed to have disappeared for good. Apple no longer allowing Microsoft's operating system to run on the new Apple Silicon architecture.
But according to statements from Craig Federighi, vice president of software engineering at Apple, it is still possible to run Boot Camp on the new Macs.
Microsoft has the cards in hand
At least, if Microsoft makes the necessary efforts to adapt to this new internal architecture, it will then be possible to use Boot Camp. For him, Macs equipped with the M1 chip are fully capable of hosting Windows, but the decision is now in the hands of Microsoft to know whether or not their operating system will be accessible on these new Macs. .
Craig Federighi also wanted to be reassuring regarding current owners of a Mac running an Intel processor. Indeed, the arrival of the M1 chip could have put a stop to the development of the latter, especially from a software point of view.
But according to Apple's vice-president, there is no reason to worry. Apple will continue to offer macOS updates on its devices running an Intel processor. These will not be abandoned by Apple.
