Apple released a new beta version of iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia (15) earlier this week. The Cupertino company notably added the “iPhone mirroring” functionality presented during the last edition of WWDC. This option allows you totake control of an iPhone from your Mac.
The phone screen is then mirrored on the computer screen. You can then use a mouse and a keyboard to move around on your smartphone. A highly anticipated breakthrough, particularly by developers, for years, which has just arrived on iPhone and Mac.
Le mode « jiggle » arrive
But for now, this functionality was not completely complete. In fact, the various people who were able to test it reported the same problem: impossible to modify the home screen. As a reminder, on iPhone, the home screen can be modified by keeping your finger pressed on an application. The entire screen then goes into “jiggle” mode. It is then possible to delete applications, move them or group them.
According to information from specialist media 9to5Mac, this feature has just arrived in the latest version of macOS 15 and iOS 18. In addition to being able to delete, move or group applications, the arrival of this “jiggle” mode will allow, like on the iPhone, to take controldes widgets. It will be possible to modify the size, position or list of information displayed.
Still a few absent
This development made by Apple shows that the iPhone mirroring functionality is moving in the right direction. However, everything is not yet perfect. For example, it is not possible to modify the lock screen or the control center of the iPhone. Notifications are also not displayed on the phone but only in the Mac's notification center.
If you want to test these features on your machines, it is possible to install the corresponding beta versions (iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1). However, these are not stable and several bugs can hamper the user experience. You should therefore not install them on devices that you use every day, or over a fairly short period of time, simply to test the new features before returning toa more stable version of iOS.
