ChatGPT will become a competitor to Google!

Last February, Bloomberg reported that Reddit had signeda huge contract with an anonymous artificial intelligence company. The amount of the agreement is 60 million dollars annually, and the objective is in particular to “train your models on the content of the social media platform". We have just learned that it could simply be OpenAI.

A recent Reuters report also stated thatOpenAI would announce a Google competitor this week. Comments quickly denied by CEO Sam Altman, who preferred to remain measured, by not flexing his muscles in the face of Google. The partnership with Reddit however, seems to have the shoulders to take a share of the market ofGoogle, which represented 91.37% of internet searches carried out in 2023.

Goals

In an official press release published by Reddit, the platform announces a partnership with OpenAI, the company creating ChatGPT. The goal is to give ChatGPT direct access to Reddit data, todeliver content in real time. The partnership shouldalso benefit from Reddit, since it will make it possible to bringnew AI featuresto the social platform. OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap explains:

We're excited to partner with Reddit to enhance ChatGPT with unique, current, and relevant insights, and to explore opportunities to enrich the Reddit experience with AI-powered features.

The best possible partnership?

At first glance, this association seems wise. Reddit is one of the most active social platforms in the world, and one can findanswer to almost everything.A fairly popular search tip, but one that is more reserved for English speakers, is to always write “Reddit” before or after your Google search. This provides better results! If it's possible to find Reddit results directly on ChatGPT elsewhere, that should probably cause Reddit to lose some regular users, butwe doubt that it will be very significant.

In France, you can do the same thing by adding the word “forum” at the beginning or end of certain Google searches that lend themselves to it. By doing this, you are more likely to get an answer written by human beings who are directly affected by your query, and who have a real solution. This will prevent you from coming across the site of a brand that wants to sell you something, or on an uninteresting web page.
