Apple draws its magic wand for your photos

The third beta of iOS 18.1just rolled out by Apple. This update brings its share of new features, including some related to Apple Intelligence. Among them, we find improvements to the writing assistant and the email summary.

One feature, however, caught our attention, because it could wellrevolutionize photo editing on iPhone. Let's take a closer look at what Cupertino has in store for us.

Clean Up: the magic happens

Apple introduit Clean Up, a new tool integrated into the Photos application. This feature allows you to remove unwanted elements from your photos. No more photobombs and distracting background details!

Clean Up uses artificial intelligence to automatically detect objects. You can then delete them with a simple tap. The AI is responsible for recreating the background realistically. It even takes shadows into accountand reflections for a natural result.

A response to the competition

This new feature is reminiscent of Google's Magic Eraser. Available for free on Android, this tool overshadowed Apple. The Apple firm is therefore catching up.

Clean Up goes further by offering advanced functions. For example, you canblur facesto preserve anonymity. The tool also allows you tocorrect imperfectionssuch as stains or dust on the lens.

Working offline thanks to the Neural Engine, Clean Up guarantees the confidentiality of your data. Edited photos are marked in their EXIF metadata for transparency.

It also seems good to point out that Clean Up, even if it is a tool that uses AI,is not part of Image Playground, Apple's image generator. This is an independent feature of the Photos app in iOS 18.1.
