To train Apple Intelligence, Amazon chips have become essential

It's the story of two giants, about to unite to take on a major challenge. Apple has been trying for several months to catch up with artificial intelligence. After presenting to the whole world“Apple Intelligence” in June, the Apple brand wants to move up a gear.

However, to have efficient artificial intelligence, it must, like all champions, train. Shadow work that requires colossal resources. As crazy as it sounds, Apple doesn't have these capabilities. The apple brand would therefore be usingchips from Amazonto achieve its ends.

Apple and Amazon: a story that lasts

Apple has also confirmed this information withCNBCa little earlier in the week. A novelty which is not really a novelty, when we know that Apple has already been using Amazon services (with its subsidiary AWS) for more than a decade. Various applications have been developed using this technology, including Siri, Apple Music and Apple Maps.

More recently, it is not AWS servers that interest Apple engineers, but the brand's Trainium and Graviton chips. In the words of Benoit Dupin, Apple's senior director of machine learning and AI, using these chips would have increased efficiency by 40%.

Amazon, shadow partner

Amazon should not, however, enter the production chain of Apple products. The brand will continue to trust TSMC for its chips, which are already the best in the world. Amazon's services could nevertheless facilitate the pre-training ofApple's artificial intelligence.

Here again, the benefits could be significant for the apple brand. Benoit Dupin mentions a 50% improvement in pre-workout thanks to Amazon's brand new Trainium2 chip. Let's hope that this progress, currently visible within the walls of Apple Park, will quickly be reflected in our Apple products.
