First stolen photos of the USB-C socket on the iPhone 15!

  • Images show the USB-C socket that would come to iPhone 15
  • It is the European Commission which imposes the end of Lightning
  • Apple has more than one trick up its sleeve to deal with it

Images of the component which could correspond to the USB-C socket of several versions of the iPhone 15 range have leaked. We actually discover the famous reversible connector which should replace the Lightning, Apple having been forced to do so by the European Union. The deadline for updating is however set at the end of 2024: it is therefore possible that we will have to wait for the iPhone 16 to take advantage of this universal plug.

The photos in question, which were published on If at first glance it may be surprising to recognize what looks like plastic, it is because the aluminum or stainless steel chassis should cover everything. A titanium mobile would even be in the cardsfor September, at Apple.

Why Europe is imposing USB-C

If Apple is forced to stop marketing Lightning on its mobiles, it is because the European Commission has decided to do so. This, for several reasons. The first being the potential capacity of manufacturers to generate less waste. So, if everyone has the same charger, there is no need to multiply the quantity: a single accessory would be enough to power all of our devices. But this is of course without taking into account a potential snub on the part of Cupertino to our legislators, taking the form of an adapter to continue transferring electricity via its proprietary standard. The proof with thesurprising cablededicated to the Apple Pencil, on iPad…

What's more, remember that many iPhone users are still equipped only with Lightning chargers today. They will therefore have to invest in a second product, USB-C, this time, if Apple gets in line with regulators. The environmental impact, in the short term, therefore seems negligible. But in the long term, it's a different story.

And this, without counting the rumors about the hypothetical arrival of an iPhone without the slightest charging connection, in favor of wireless only.

Accessories still resist the invader

In any case, even if the iPhone 15s are indeed delivered with a USB-C plug, this should not spell the end of Lightning. Indeed, although the universal standard is also (it seems) planned for AirPods, no new model of the Apple firm's wireless headphones is apparently in preparation for 2023.

However, all those available in stores today are rechargeable wirelessly, or with Lightning. The homemade system from Cupertino therefore still has a bright future ahead of it.
