In Apple watches and smartphones there is a component responsible for providing an additional layer of security to its users. The brand soberly called it Secure Enclave (abbreviated as SEP). Despitea security flaw discovered last August, its value proposition remains honorable since it makes it possible to minimize the risks of theft of personal data thanks toencrypted memory.
We could also compare the part to the T2 chip. Its principle is more or less the same but is however used on Mac computers.by offering them, for example, the possibility of physically muting their microphone. An additional guarantee of confidentiality which confirms Cupertino's positioning in this area.
Compatible products
According to Apple, its new SEP teamtheHomePod miniwhich is just beginning to replace its more imposing version. It would also be integrated into watches powered by an S5 SoC and unveiled after fall 2020. But as this season then began on September 22 and the Watch SE and Series 5 were marketed before, this information is puzzling.
The most recent high-end version of the wearable, on the other hand, is entitled to it for sure. Just like theiPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini, the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro Max or even the fourth generation iPad Air. Improved operation
The second generation Secure Enclave chip has been revisited tobetter protect yourself against hackers using the brute force method, which consists of trying all possible passwords until you manage to unlock a device. Carried out with a robot, this operation will be all the more limited as Apple recalls blocking its iPhones after ten unsuccessful attempts.
Finally, note also that Macs equipped with the processorApple silicon M1are also delivered with the SEP 2. And for good reason: their CPU is based on the same architecture as that of smartphones of the same brand, since Intel was left aside in favor of a proprietary manufacturing process with TSMC at the bar.
