Next iPad: why Apple wants to make it more powerful than ever

Remember, a few months ago, Apple confirmed that all iPhone 16s would have 8 GB of RAM,a first for the range. A necessary increase to run Apple Intelligence smoothly across the entire range.

A few weeks later, it was the turn of the MacBook Air and Pro to see their RAM double, increasing to 16 GB minimum. Here again, the objective is clear: to provide an optimal experience with Apple's AI suite.

As for the iPad, the third pillar of the Apple ecosystem, the Pro and Air models have already been ready to welcome Apple Intelligence for a while now. The iPad Pro has in fact shipped 8 to 16 GB since 2021, and the iPad Air has offered 8 GB minimum since the 5th generation released in 2022.

The iPad 11 would go to 8 GB of RAM

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the iPad 11 should follow suit in spring 2025.Apple's new affordable tabletwould thus go from 4 to 8 GB of RAM, while adopting the A17 Pro chip from the iPhone 15 Pro.

This leap forward would allow the iPad 11 to run the full range of Apple Intelligence features without compromise. Gurman also specifies that8 GB is the minimum requiredto take full advantage of these AI tools.

iPad mini 7 leads the way

This development is in line with the iPad mini 7, unveiled last October. The compact tablet from Cupertino also has the A17 Pro chip with 8 GB of RAM. According to the first benchmarks relayed by the press, it would reachimpressive scores on the test bench.

Remember that the current iPad 10 features the 2020 A14 Bionic chip, with 4 GB of RAM. The move to the A17 Pro and 8 GB therefore represents a significant generational leap, which should give a facelift to one of the most affordable iPads in the range. A more than welcome upgrade, while the tablet had not seen any major development for several years.
