LiquidMetal seems to have been mastered by Apple for mass production

We had seen in
this article… from August 2010
that Apple had bought back the exclusivity
of use of the products of a company named 'Liquid metal
specialized in the production of a new alloy.

Since then, Apple has only used this technology for the eject tool.
the iPhone SIM card even if the Cupertino company signed for two years
additional as we mentionedin this
other article
.

Things seem to be progressing since apatent relating to the
large-scale production
has just been assigned to Crucible
Intellectual Property, the company that manages the exclusivity agreement
between Apple and Liquidmetal.

TheLiquid metalis an alloy that has
the advantage of being as resistant as metal but can be shaped or
tinted like plastic.

On the other hand, production turns out to be delicate, to say the least.

However, this patent, based somewhat on the manufacture of float glass,
shows that it is possible to produce sheets ofLiquid metalseveral meters wide in
thicknesses between 0.1 and 25 mm.

This new possibility opens the way to large-scale production and
theliquidmetalcould thus be used in
the manufacturing of the three products cited in the patent, namely the iPhone, the iPad
and the iPod.

Of course, don't expect to see aiPad 5or aiPhone 5Sin liquidmetal but nothing prevents now
to seriously consider it for future generations from 2014
maybe.
