iOS and iPadOS 14.4: what changes and new features?

After therelease of iOS 14.3 last December, Apple logically moved to iOS 14.4 without waiting too long. This new version of the operating system for iPhone isavailable to everyone since January 26, 2021after a beta test phase of several weeks. Same for iPadOS 14.4 and watchOS 7.3.

Below are the new features of iOS 14.4, iPadOS 14.4 and watchOS 7.3.

In addition to the correction of various bugs (in particular that of the jerky display of the home screen, when navigating between app pages, that of errors appearing in certain photos taken in HDR on iPhone 12 Pro, or again that of the keyboard sometimes suffering from a delay in displaying words) and the improvement in the general performance of the OS and autonomy, here is what the new version 14.4 brings:

  • App Clips:in addition to being able to be launched by scanning a code, App Clips can now also be launched via the camera, NFC, Safari or even iMessage
  • Shortcuts:ability to set a zoom perspective for the wallpaper application action

  • VoiceOver :new Direct Touch Apps option available in settings, possibly to allow VoiceOver to control applications via the rotor function, in a more direct way

  • Bluetooth :new options to select the connected audio device and thus allow iOS to intelligently adapt its broadcast volume.See here for details

  • Camera :can detect smaller QR codes
  • Repair :iOS notifies the user in case their iPhone has been repaired with a third-party camera module.See details on this here
  • App Locate:improved notifications for friends and family members, and instructions for use for new features possibly to come, including support for third-party accessories, network search
