Like every year in June, during WWDC, Apple unveiled the new version of its mobile operating system: iOS 14. And the new features are omnipresent. This year, thekeynotetook place behind closed doors, but for the occasion allowed us to discover - with a little taste of privilege - the resplendently designed premises of Apple Park in Cupertino. If many changes are indeed to be noted with this version, the suspense was however not very present since many clues had already leaked beforehand.

Release date
Often already seen before on Android, Mountain View's competing OS, the new features of iOS 14 are available today for developers, in beta edition. The general public, for its part, will have to wait until the month ofJulyto take advantage of this preview, without the exact day having been specified yet. As for the global rollout, it won't happen until next season. Patience will therefore be required to access this update, which offers the following changes.
What's new system features in iOS 14?
- Widget improvements: to move anywhere on the home screen, among the application icons and no longer only on the “Today display” screen,but read only
- Smart Stack: a widget in the form of a carousel which displays several widgets in a row, configurable manually, automatically, or with suggestions

- Storage Improvements: new ways to organize your home screen and applications (alphabetical order with App Library, via search fields, suggestions and automatic categories)
- Hide application pages: new option for the home screen, ideal if you lend the iPhone to your children
- Picture in picture (Picture in picture): already available on iPad, allows you to display a video in popup mode, superimposed wherever you want on another app that you use: practical for following an iOS tutorial and doing it at the same time –our tutorial here

- Incoming call notification: calls are now reported in a pop-up window: no more video game games blocked because of the full screen!
- Improved sleep tracking
- Shortcuts:the app is enriched with new triggers and Apple Watch compatibility
- Sound detection: iOS can alarm the user of an automatically detected sound, such as a baby crying, siren, flowing water, etc.The detail there
- Surveillance from the clipboard: iOS detects and alerts as soon as a third-party application reads the clipboard,as seen there
- Search in storage: it is now possible to search the iPhone's storage settings, to easily find an application to delete, for example

What's new Siri on iOS 14?
- Design change: the voice assistant appears in a popup at the bottom of the screen and more in a dedicated page, with an animated design using the icon that we already know
- New queries supported: including sending audio messages
- Improved translations: Siri takes advantage of the translation capabilities of the new native iOS translation application, called Translate
- Fluidity:in French, Siri's responses are now clearer

Apps that change with iOS 14
Apple has also brought serious new features to its official apps in iOS 14:
Messages
- Favorites: ability to favorite conversations to find them at the top of the app

- Memojis: new 3D faces are available as well as new accessories, including the protective mask which is very trendy at the moment
- Improved discussions:as in a Facebook WhatsApp, Messages allows in iOS 14 to make mentions of users, to refer to one of its previous sentences, or to respond to a specific chat bubble
Apple Plans
- Recommendations: recommendations for places to visit with the Guides menu, reminiscent of Nomad List or Airbnb
- Bike: taking into account bicycle journeys
- Electric cars: Apple Plans includes a map of chargers and can recommend a route according to your electric car model, with instructions on the charging stations to use on the route
- Restrictions de pollution: certain large cities like Paris orLondonsupport for pollution restrictionsimplemented by large cities such as London

CarPlay
- new wallpapers (no, they're still not customizable)
- additional app categories (parking, electric vehicle charging and… meal delivery)
App Store
From now on, you no longer need to download an app to test it! It is enough to take advantage of a preview, calledApp Clipbased on the model of Instant Apps from the Play Store. Accessible from a proprietary flash code or a link and for all publishers.

Furthermore, we can now know the data to which a publisher has access before installing an app. Practical for confidentiality.
New Translate app
Apple also unveiled its own servicelive translation, which offers the same functionalities as Google's eponymous tool with dozens of languages already listed. A discussion mode notably offers the possibility of exchanging with a foreign speaker in a very fluid manner, the Siri engine obviously taking care of the voice recognition. Note that an option integrated into Safari also allows you to transform a page from one language to another, like the similar button in Chrome.

Please also note that unlike competing solutions, for Apple's Translate tool, the entire operation is done on the machine, without transferring data to third-party servers.
