Apple News+ now opens natively from a browser

You probably know the concept ofpaywall: this English term refers to popups that appear above an article that you have started reading in order to encourage you to checkout to subscribe to the media that hosts the content in question or to continue reading. More and more companies are using it to face stiff competition from free news found on YouTube or social networks.

But users ofApple News+(the service is not yet available in France) already customers of certain newspapers following this practice such asWall Street Journal- which we regularly relay - are also victims of this blockage, even though their subscription via the iOS app normally allows them to avoid it. And for good reason: until today, it was not connected to browsers. It was without countingthe operating system update in beta last week, all the new features of which can be accessed here.

An efficient and smoother solution

Indeed, from now on, if Apple News+ subscribers click on a link to discover a paid publication, it will no longer open in Google Chrome or in Safari but automatically in the aggregator (an option to be triggered from the settings ). And although this change was not presented during the opening keynote of theWorldwide Developer Conference, it nevertheless demonstrates that the development of this package has not been abandoned despite its very relative popularity at the moment: only a few countries are eligible.

However, other improvements such asthe arrival of audio transcriptions of informationwhich leaked ahead of the Special Event have still not been confirmed. It is therefore likely that we will have to wait for a future variation ofiOS 14to be able to test this format.
