Free in the process of buying the Bouygues Telecom network… against the backdrop of the takeover of SFR

We knew that major maneuvers
in the field of French Telecom operators were underway with
particular
the resale of SFR mentioned this week here
. But this morning's announcement is
Alsoimportant than unexpected.

In fact, it is ain-depth recomposition of the landscape of
mobile operators
which is announced as we learn this morning that
Free has reportedly signed an agreement for the purchase of its mobile network
competitor Bouygues Télécom
:

It is thus anetwork of 15,000 antennaswhich would open to
Free, with the related frequencies, allowing it to become an operator
much more powerful and present than it is at the moment. In parallel,
this sale could give Bouygues the advantage over Numéricable in the other
current operation: the repurchase of SFR.

It is the Journal Du Dimanche which got this information from the mouth of
by Olivier Roussat, CEO of Bouygues Télécom. It indicates that she is the
result of 3 days and nights of negotiations and that the sale of the antennas and
frequencies, some of which 4G should cost 1.8 billion
euros. The sale nevertheless remains suspended upon the conclusion of the sale of SFR
to Bouygues, but this would be facilitated by resale, reassuring for
the competition authority.

The operator wants to be reassuring about employment linked to network maintenance,
which would be transferred to Free, while on the client sideTHE
network and subscriber migrations could take place “over the course of
2015 »
and the CEO of Bouygues affirms that “the prices of packages
will not increase.

To summarize, if both operations are carried out we
would find:

  • Freeowner of a substantial 3G and 4G network, the one
    of Bouygues Telecom
  • BouyguesSFR network user
  • Orangeunchanged, but which logically would no longer rent its
    Free 3G network

In the end, the landscape would returnwith three actors, a
situation similar to that known before the launch of Free Mobile ago
two years. Which Free Mobile would emerge strongly strengthened from such
agreements: starting from nothing two years ago, he would become an operator
mobile with a real national network!

Here is an announcement from Sunday, a normally calm day... which could have
impacts for us usersin the months to
come !
