RCS: After Google, it’s Samsung that’s putting pressure on Apple

The subject of RCS is coming back to the forefront. After several advertising campaigns directly targeting Apple, Google ended up leaving the Apple alone in recent weeks. It is the historic rival of the Apple Samsung which took care of taking up the torch.

What are RCS?

RCS is a new standard used in messaging which should allow more information to be sent than SMS. They use data connections to go from one device to another allowing the sending of photos or audio messages. RCS also allow the creation of discussion groups. So much technology that is today inaccessible to users of traditional SMS.

If on paper the RCS reminds you of something, it is completely normal. Apple has made its own version, iMessage. Very popular on iPhones, the little blue chat bubbles have not yet crossed the Rubicon, none of them have arrived on Android. Apple nevertheless pleads in this direction.

But on the other side of the barrier, Android manufacturers (Google in the lead) are asking Apple to abandon its native system for a universal solution used by both Android and iOS users. A proposal that Apple has repeatedly refused, Apple does not want a universal solution, unless it is iMessage.

In this deaf dialogue, Samsung has just restarted the conversation. With its advertising it targets Apple and its choice to lock itself into iMessage.

In this very revisited version of the classic Romeo and Juliet, the chat bubbles try by all means to get closer, while the evil operating systems, Apple in the lead, prevent them from doing so.
