Repairability: an Android smartphone does even worse than the iPhone 14!

With its note of7/10, the iPhone 14 Pro ultimately doesn't do so badly when it comes to rating its repairability. This assessment is now mandatory in France, since a law adopted to combat obsolescence governs the mobile phone market. Other devices must also comply with the legislation in this way, such as computers with, for example, 16-inch MacBook Pros (6.6/10).

YouTuber Hugh Jeffreys, for his part, wanted to compare the repairability of the new iPhones with that of competing and currently very popular smartphones. And we discover that apples are not the worst in this category. No, it's actuallythe famous Nothing Phone (1)which wins the prize for the most complicated smartphone to repair, in this video.

A ranking in favor of competition

Jeffreys thus compared six different mobiles: theFairphone 4, the Galaxy S22 from Samsung, the Google Pixel 7, the “classic” iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 Pro and the Nothing Phone (1). Unsurprisingly, it is the Fairphone that is the easiest to repair, this is probably explained because it is a smartphone whose ambitions are precisely to do as little harm as possible to the planet. The manufacturer proudly displays it as “durable“, “reparable” et “fair” on its official website. Price: 579 euros, compared to almost double for a basic iPhone 14. But this is at the cost of certain technical characteristics such as a better size/screen ratio, a 5nm chip or even Bluetooth 5.3, which can only be found at Apple.

The other good news is perhaps on the side ofSamsung, which with its S22 offers one of the best-selling products of the year. The latter ranks second in the list of easiest to repair, just behind the Fairphone 4 and before Alphabet's Pixel 7. To find out what separates each model, the video is available below (in English):
