2020 survey results at Apple: the iPhone 12 eclipsed by the M1 chip

A few weeks ago, at the beginning of January, and therefore at the start of this new year 2021,we asked youwhat do you think is the most important new Apple product of 2020. Because, it should be remembered again, last year was very special. On the one hand, because of the coronavirus pandemic which has disrupted the plans of many tech companies, in addition to having caused much other damage on a human and economic level of course. On the other hand, because the Californian firm has not been stingy with new products, as seen inour complete recap of 2020 at Apple. She has released more than 10, on a regular, almost monthly basis.

But among these new features, some probably struck you more than others, the purpose of our survey was precisely to find out which ones. The question was:

“What is the most significant new feature in 2020 at Apple?”

You had to choose between 13 answers. Here is the breakdown of choices after more than 450 votes.

We notice that forone in two voters, Apple Silicon constitutes the most important novelty of the year at Apple. In second place, the iPhone 12 recorded 14% of the votes. The other new features can be sorted out in a pocket handkerchief.

So, according to you, neither the AirPods Max headset, nor the HomePod mini, nor the new iPads or even the new Apple Watches and new OSwere unable to compete with the new M1 Macs.

On the other hand, your comments revealed two interesting points. On the one hand, several of you have highlighted the fact that Apple has removed the chargers from its iPhone and Apple Watch. It is true that we could have included this new feature in the list of answers. Also, none of you mentioned the iPhone SE, the iPhone model with Touch ID released last spring.

Certainly, it is impossible for us, on this basis, to conclude that the latter was not a real success. Especially since before the release of the iPhone 12, this iPhone SE constituted ainteresting choice of iPhone for less than 500 euros. But since the iPhone The XR model indeed displays a much more modern design and above all integrates Face ID.

In any case, the year 2020 for Apple was not, according to you, the year of the iPhone. No, 2020 at Apple is above all the year of the M1 Macs. Moreover, 2021 could also be marked with the “Apple Silicon” seal, with several laptops and desktop computers expected to update their processor, precisely, with a new version of the Apple Mx chip.

So, unless the next iPhones which should be released in the fall offer new features never before seen by the competition, the coming year would also be that of the Apple Silicon revolution. Unless the Californian says more in the coming months about one of his next important projects. We think, for example, of augmented reality glasses and the Apple Car.
