“iPhone SE choice” survey: unexpected results?

Some time ago, we asked iPhone SE buyers to tell us what their choice was in terms of finish and storage capacity of their model. This allows us to draw up a sketch of the most successful iPhone SE. This is interesting, because the results reflect users' storage needs and the evolution of these needs over the years and the release of new iPhones.

Black is black

When asked about the choice of finish, there were logically 3 possibilities: Black, PRODUCT(RED) and white. After 870 votes, here are the results:

  • Black: 363 responses
  • PRODUCT(RED): 326 responses
  • White: 181 responses

And here is the distribution of percentages:

More GB? Yes, but not too much

As for storage capacity, there were also 3 possible choices: 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB. Here is how the 940 votes are distributed:

  • 64 GB: 372 answers
  • 128 GB: 469 answers
  • 256 GB: 99 answers

And as a percentage:

Conclusion

Among our readers, the most popular iPhone SE is thereforethe “Black” model in 128 GB. Many buyers also liked the PRODUCT(RED) variation. Actually, when it comes to color choice, these results aren't that surprising. We know that the “Black” or “Space Gray” variations, dark in any case, are often those which are the most successful. This was already the case for the iPhone XR in 2018, a model for which the “Black” had arrived ahead of the PRODUCT(RED), or evenfor iPhone X in 2017, a model for which the “Space Gray” version was buyers’ favorite.

When it comes to storage, however, the progression over the iPhone models is interesting. On iPhone 8, the most popular storage capacity was64 Go. On iPhone the 128 GB).

But this year, with the iPhone SE, the 128 GB choice is goodwell ahead of that of 64 GB. This may be due to the fact that iPhone cameras take increasingly heavy photos and videos. But also to the fact that we exchange more and more multimedia content, photos, videos, GIFs, Live Photos, audio recordings and others, via messages. In addition, applications and especially games also take up more space than in the past.

The trend would therefore be towards agrowing need for storage on iPhone, and this preferential choice for 128 GB in the case of the iPhone SE could confirm this hypothesis.

What do you think? Do you think 64 GB is enough for an iPhone in 2020?
