According to the Canalys firm,it is now Huawei that sells the most touch tablets in China. More precisely, our source of the day estimates that where the giant had no less than 19% market share in the first quarter of 2023, this figure increased by 88% to reach more than two million deliveries a year later. For comparison, Apple would have, over the period in question, managed to sell only 1.956 million devices, for 27% market share compared to 29% for Huawei. In France, however, it is assumed that it is always the apple company that wins, the same on its lands in the United States.
These numbers could be confirmed in the months to come, in particular thanks to the success of the newMatePad SE 11at Huawei. The product only costs 219.99 euros in its basic version, in other words much cheaper than a tenth generation iPad from Apple. However, the technical sheet is not necessarily less powerful with even six gigabytes of RAM where the iPad 10 makes do with only four. As a reminder, the RAM allows, when its volume is high, to manage the opening of numerous apps at the same time without flinching.
The MatePad SE 11 is already available, released in June and delivered automatically with 128 GB of internal storage – compared to 64 GB for the cheapest tenth generation iPad. The latter today costs 439 euros.
Another iPad to reverse the trend?
If for the moment Apple is no longer the leading seller of tablets in China, this could change again in the future. And for good reason: it has been rumored, for a few weeks now, that the Cupertino company is preparing a new device that is even more affordable than theTenth generation iPad. It could be a less powerful version of the same model, or simply the eleventh generation iPad. To be sure, you will certainly have to wait until September or October of this year.
For his part,Huawei is still struggling to sell its products in the Westsince they were accused of interference a few years ago. What's more, now other companies well established in the French landscape, such as Oppo or Xiaomi, also offer touchscreen tablets running Android whose price remains more accessible than Apple.
MatePad Pro vs iPad Pro
As for the most capable devices now, Huawei still offers its most recent excellent MatePad Pro, with a large 13.2-inch screen wherethe new iPad Pro M4the largest is “satisfied” with 13 inches at the front. During the presentation of the latter last May, Apple particularly highlighted its thinness, but the 5.5 millimeters thick of the MatePad Pro also places it among the most compact of its generation.
On the performance side, the Huawei MetaPad Pro is powered by a proprietary processor, theKirin 9000W, with eight cores under the hood. With the iPad Pro, we are also entitled to in-house hardware, optimized in conjunction with the operating system for greater speed. It is therefore theM4.
As for the software, the MatePad Pro is obviously powered by Android, with a HarmonyOS 4 overlay from Huawei. Conversely, iPad Pros are all supplied with iPadOS, which will shortly benefit from new features from Apple Intelligence. This new suite of AI features announced at WWDC notably makes it possible to transcribe voice memos into text form, and directly competes with Samsung's Galaxy AI.
