Samsung overtakes Apple and unveils its connected ring first

Samsung revealed its newGalaxy Ringat the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona. This small European CES is an opportunity for major tech brands to present their new smartphones and other connected objects, this time with the Korean smart ring among the devices in the spotlight. This will notably be published in no less than nine different sizes. For comparison, Apple, for example, only offers three sizes of silicone tips for its second generation AirPods Pro. Evoking the Apple firm here makes sense, given that the patents filed by it show in black and white that its engineers are also working on the development of a ring of the same type.

It is still quite difficult to know what the Apple ring will offer to the general public, but rumors suggest that many features ofhealthwill be there. We can then easily assume that the statistics thus collected will be saved and consultable within the eponymous app, the latter now benefiting from a client for iPhone and another for iPad. The area of well-being is thus one of the keystones of Cupertino's recent marketing operations, the company having also acquired the startup Beddit offering a device to measure sleep, to be placed under users' mattresses.

When will the future “Apple Ring” be released?

Apple's rumored next smart ring could be comingin a few years, where the Galaxy Ring is for its part announced as potentially available fromsecond half of 2024.

This suggests that the Californian manufacturer is waiting to have detected significant validation from the market, as was the case before the Vision Pro arrived in the mixed reality sector. Tim Cook's wireless headphones and even connected watches have also been launched following such observations, with companies like Motorola having already launched their own alternatives to such wearables in advance.

The sensors

For the magazine 01net, which took the time to capture the first images of the Galaxy Ring atMWC, the device should precisely embed sensors similar to those found on our connected watches. It would be surprising if Apple did not also follow this trajectory, especially since its Watches are already focused on the well-being of their owners. We know, for example, that all models available today in the Apple Store are equipped with a heart rate sensor, capable of detecting arrhythmias that can be very serious if detected too late.

Withles Apple Watch, you can also monitor your blood oxygen level – provided you choose a high-end and sufficiently recent model. Patents filed by Apple also mention the case of embedded technologies to help diabetics, but no one knows if these will see the light of day anytime soon. In any case, the subject of the blood glucometercontinues to regularly generate ink and some already see this component integrated under the chassis of the Series X from the end of 2025.

Some prototypes of smart rings with integrated projectors also led the general public to believe that it would be possible to use them for augmented reality, but such projects quickly proved unrealizable. In any case, with the large-scale production means available to current tech giants.
