It’s definitely becoming a habit. An American living in Memphis, Tennessee was able to find his stolen car thanks to an AirTag installed on the vehicle. Concretely and after two attempts to steal his Hyundai, Joshua Wylie took the initiative of placing a tracker in his SUV.
When AirTags become the police’s allies
The man specifies that it was indeed the Apple tracker which allowed the police to trace the stolen car: “If I did not have this AirTag to show me where the vehicle was this early this morning, it is very likely that my vehicle could have sustained several thousand dollars in additional damage.»
The police were in fact able to trace the vehicle which was located near the police station. Note that this story echoes another that we told you a month ago. This time it concerneda resident of Toronto, Canada.
After having his first car stolen, he placed an AirTag on his second vehicle. Using the Find My app, he was able to track his SUV to a recycling plant in the neighboring neighborhood. The police were then able to intervene and recovered nine vehicles which had been stolen from their owners.
However, it happens that these trackers are used with much less noble objectives. In particular, we have seen worrying cases of harassment in the past. Moreover, the Attorney General of New York, Letitia James recently issued a warning notice to consumers to warn them of the risks linked to the misuse of these accessories.
