RCS and iMessage support for a new iOS app

  • With a single app, Beeper allows you to manage WhatsApp, iMessage and Instagram chats
  • RCS support is included
  • The platform is only accessible by waiting list, for the moment

Beeper is an iOS app that allows you to centralize discussions from Messenger, Instagram or even Slack and WhatsApp with a single messaging system. And the publisher behind this small success has just revealed support for RCS and the iMessage format, echoing the recent debate between Google and Apple on this subject. Respectively, these are the developers of the two technologies.

For those who have never heard of it, RCS is, in the long term, supposed to replace the SMS standard that everyone knows. With, the key, the possibility of reacting to a text message with a simple emoji of your choice. But Applerefuseto get up to speed with this new feature, which has now been adopted by most smartphone manufacturers.

Great features on iPhone

With Beeper, users can perform a text search within all messages exchanged, whether via Messages, WhatsApp, Twitter, etc. Other apps are also compatible, such asSignal, particularly renowned for its promise of respect for private life, or Telegram, IRC and even LinkedIn or Discord.

Beeper also allows you to mark a discussion as “unread” after viewing it, in order to return to it later. Better yet: the most organized will be able to schedule the sending of messages, which remains impossible natively with iMessage.

What alternatives are possible?

Beeper is only available onwaiting listFor now. But on Mac, it is also possible to go throughFerdium, similar to Station (eFounders) but with a more “open” design here.

Alternatively, Meta offers its own functionality to merge the Instagram and Messenger inboxes. But of course, neither iMessage nor RCS are taken into account here…

Using a centralized app saves time and memory, which is limited on iPhone and Mac (no SD card reader). But this maneuver also increases cybersecurity risks: a hack would potentially be more dramatic than if it only targeted one service at a time. Chat history, however, is kept on each provider's servers.
