Telegram files complaint against Apple with the European Commission

In March 2019, and after complaining about Apple's behavior for several years, Spotifylaunched hostilitiesagainst the apple brand by launching a procedure within the European Union and calling the public to witness.

In question, the 30% tax levied by Apple for each subscription on the App Store, a rate which forces the Swedish streaming giant to raise its prices, all benefiting the service of the Cupertino firm: Apple Music.

“Apple receives billions from third-party applications”

It is now Telegram's turn to launch an offensive against Apple. The messaging service has also decided to file a complaint with the European Commission. In particular, it wants its users to be able to download applications that are not on the App Store.

The president of Telegram, Pavel Durov, already explained himself a few days ago about Apple in a blog post. He attacked the “myths” of the Apple brand regarding the 30% commission paid by developers: “In fact, running an app store costs just a fraction of what Apple takes from app developers. Every quarter, Apple receives billions of dollars from third-party applications. Meanwhile, the expense of hosting and reviewing these applications is in the tens of millions, not billions, of dollars. We know this because at Telegram we host and review more public content than the App Store ever will», Underlines the Russian business leader.

It remains to be seen whether this argument will succeed in convincing the European authorities. On the other hand, the situation is quite complicated for Apple and the criticism addressed to the App Store is increasing. This theme was also at the heart of Tim Cook's hearing before Congress this week and you can findour articleon the subject.
