Testing the Lifeproof Fre case for iPhone 6: fine waterproofing

As with previous models, the packaging of the Lifeproof allows
discover the hull in action via the images but also by opening it to check

After opening, we find the shell in two parts, a cable for the
audio output and a cloth for cleaning the screen before installation

No change for a manufacturer who has always delivered quality,
two plastic parts are faultless, perfectly molded. We
distinguishes in green the sealing joints, arranged around the perimeter but also
at the level of the hatch for the charging socket.

It is recommended, even if the hulls are advertised tested individually
before delivery, carry out a waterproof test before going into the water with your
machine. We did it, no problems to report.

Positive point, the installation of the iPhone 6 in the case is of great
ease. Simply insert it, then close the second part. This happens
passes by clipping, without particularly forcing, gently but with
precision.

All of the phone's functions remain accessible once the case is
set up :

Utilisation

This type of “all-purpose” case which protects against shocks, but also
splashes, sand or immersion, can quickly prove painful
daily, requiring it to be used only when going out. But it is necessary
so take it out, put it back in and it's not really practical. The advantage of
Lifeproof is that they are made for active people, who do not want to have to
change the hull on the weekend or during the week depending on the activities and
possibly keep it in place permanently. It must therefore be
adapted to this daily life as well as to difficult conditions. It is in this
framework that we evaluated this hull, mixed use.

The result is very positive. Thus, for quiet use, in the office and
in everyday life, not to mention sport or the outdoors, it is necessarily more
bulky than the bare iPhone or protected by a light shell, but the finesse of
the iPhone 6 does wonders here by allowing the case to be very pleasant
in hand and not too thick.

We can see this by comparing the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 version of the case,
slimming treatment on the program:

The use of different functions such as touch id, speaker,
the camera did not pose any particular problem. Everything is as if
the iPhone was as bare as a worm. The touch of the screen is not altered by the
plastic film, no problem on a daily basis. Please note there is
a "Nude" templatewhich ensures waterproofing and protection against shocks
while leaving the screen without plastic protection, for those who
prefer.

There remained the telephony part. The sound has always been more or less attenuated
in previous versions, with progress in each generation. This
this time, according to the correspondents, thesound remained clear during
appeleven if a record comparison using the
dictaphone with/without shell shows an attenuation of the sound volume (linked to
the necessary sealing at the level of the microphone). The solution to ensure
perfect calls otherwise use the extension cord provided and plug in the
Apple headset/mic. The sound reproduction of the speakers did not seem
particularly attenuated.

Otherwise, the case fits well in the hand, its shape is pleasant, the materials are
slightly grainy with a rim, there is therefore little risk of leaving
slide the machine.

For more difficult conditions, we tested it in a swimming pool, no entry
of water (you should remember to close the headphone jack cap, this is probably
the greatest risk!):

Be careful, the hull does not float, splash, at the bottom, more than a meter, no
water entry problem:

The shell is thick enough to protect against shocks. The screen is protected by
a plastic screen, this one, quite thick, was not scratched during
use, it reassures regarding scratches especially when used with hands
sometimes questionable in terms of cleaning when we are in
outside.

An opinion?

In conclusion, this model is once again there in terms of
quality, practical and functional on a daily basis, while ensuring
truly complete protection when the active or muddy times come.
Thanks to the finesse allowed by the iPhone 6, it remains pleasant in the hand.
