A few days ago, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg told us that Apple was working on an Apple Watch Ultra with satellite messaging,a first for a connected watch. Today we learn a little less good news from him, which concerns the development of iOS, the system that runs your iPhone on a daily basis.
A significant delay that disrupts plans?
According to Mark Gurman, the gradual deployment of new features in iOS 18, planned until version 18.4, would cause an unusual delay in development. At this time of year, engineers should normally be focused on the next major update, iOS 19.
However, they are still busy finalizing features of iOS 18. This significant delay disrupts plans and could postpone the integration of certain additions planned in iOS 19 until the first half of 2026. A worrying situation when iOS is at the heart of the Apple ecosystem.
Key features impacted?
If the Cupertino giant follows its usual pattern, the first betas of iOS 19 should be presented to developers in June 2025 during WWDC. Then compatible iPhones would receive the final update during the month of September.
The delay announced by Gurman could, however, disrupt this well-established schedule. It is very likely thatmajor features of iOS 19, although highly anticipated, were missing at the launch. They would then arrive later, potentially in the first half of 2026 according to Gurman's estimates. The Apple firm could be forced to lower its ambitions for iOS 19 if it wishes to respect its schedule. These are of course only forecasts based on internal sources.
Until then, the situation may still evolve.
While important features of iOS 19 could experience some delay, this is unlikely to be the case for future Apple phones, including the rumored iPhone 17 Air. According to Mark Gurman, this newcomer, which should be added to the four already existing variants, is planned to embarka unique feature that Apple is obsessed with.
