During CES 2021 and after many adventures at the legal door,Belkin announced new connected objects working with the Locate application. The principle of this association is relatively simple. By using the sensorBluetooth or GPSof the products in question, the platform is able to identify their position, and then transcribe it via a map accessible online.
Today, two bikes join the still very small family of items compatible with Locate. These are theVanMoof S3 and X3, electric mounts whose French price is displayed at 1,998 euros. Their differences are mainly in terms of design, the first being fairly general and intended for older users while the second adopts more unsightly shapes but for smaller users.
Technical characteristics of the VanMoof S3
The front wheel of the VanMoof S3 has a 250 watt motor with four power levels. Its announced autonomy would reachsixty to one hundred and fifty kilometers: a great performance, but which will obviously depend on the mode chosen. Note also that it only takes eighty minutes to charge half of the battery, compared to four hours for a full charge.
It is possible to lock the bicycle without a key using a feature called Touch Unlock. But even if the application is indeed full of other interesting options, don't expect to reach new heights in terms of performance. Indeed, as is often the case with this type of machine, thespeed is limited to 25 km/h. Not to mention the weight of the vehicle, which reaches… 21 kg!
VanMoof
The VanMoof X3 offers more or less the same components as the S3. Available in gray or black, it comes with protectionanti-theftincorporating both alarms and a remote locking mode “to torment thieves“. Lighter than my S3, it rolls with 24-inch rims supported by hydraulic brakes at the front but also at the rear.
