Nearly 7 million smartphones and tablets running iOS and Android activated on Christmas Day… and record downloads

It is at
Flurry, company specializing in app audience measurement
mobile (it is also used in
notre application ifon.fr
) that we need an indicator of the number of
machines under iOS and Android activated on Christmas Day and especially the comparison
with an “average” day in December:

According to their measurements, these are6,8 millionsof smartphones,
portable music players and tablets using Apple's iOS or Google's Android which have
were activated precisely this December 25, 2011.

This must be compared to the average of the previous 20 days of December or the
company measuredon average 1.5 million activations
daily
. This represents an increase of 353% and above all a
clear increase compared to Christmas2010or2,8
million machines were given away for Christmas
.

Unfortunately (and strangely) we do not have the distinction
iOS/Android.

Of course, the same trend is found on downloads
of applications since Flurry estimates that242 millions d’applications
were installed at Christmas
against an average always over 20 days
previous ones from December,108 million installations per
jour
(+125 %).

And finally, here is the graph of app downloads hour by hour
Christmas Day, compared to previous days:
