Video: They took apart the iPhone 15 Pro Max, in full

As is often the case, the iFixit site wanted to disassemble the new iPhones piece by piece to try to find out what is hidden under the hood. We discover, unsurprisingly, an imposing battery, first of all occupying most of the volume behind the screen. This makes it possible to offer up to one day of autonomy without problem, even if the manufacturer boasts an endurance possibly reaching twenty-nine hours of video playback. And to power the battery, you will now have to rely on a USB-C socket. Instead of the Lightning connection.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 15 Pro Max disassembled by iFixit only obtains a repairability score of 4/10. This is not much, and for comparison the iPhone 14 Pro Max obtains no less than 7/10 – according to Apple. The firm's apple score is, however, based on the official French scale, regulated by the state. This one is not exactly the same as iFixit's.

Some rather discreet specificities

The iFixit teardown also made it possible to confirm that it is indeed a Qualcomm modem which powers the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They can thus access 5G thanks to an X70 chip, offering particularly high speedswift. Of course, Wi-Fi is also there – more precisely with its Wi-Fi 6E generation, for the first time on mobile phones.

With this, the iFixit video also reveals the engine dedicated to haptic feedback (vibrations), different sensors and even the processor. This is the A17 Pro chip,also present on the iPhone 15 Proand which offers better performance than the A16 Bionic chip. The latter has been retained for the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus, but also equips the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Is it easy to take apart the iPhone 15 Pro Max?

To disassemble an iPhone 15 Pro Max correctly, you obviously need to have dedicated tools. iFixit offers them for purchase on its site, hence the video and various articles specifying how to properly reverse engineer the mobile. But Apple also markets its ownkitsto repair the iPhone yourself, for a rental and ordering equipment there too.

Despite everything, repairing the iPhone independently remains rather long and relatively complicated. The method is very careful, and calling on an approved technician can make your life easier.
