Data sheet for the iPad Pro from early 2021 with M1 chip

During its conference on Tuesday April 20, 2021, Apple presented the new generation iPad Pro. Succeedingthe version revealed about a year earlier, it includes several improved components, including a processor borrowed from Macs: theM1. So, what do you think of this iPad Pro? Here is our opinion, supporting technical sheet.

Design

If we look at the appearance of the iPad Pro 5, we see that the tablet -clearly- offerswhat is best. Indeed, here, Apple offers a substantial size/screen ratio which well exceeds 80%, while two colors are available: space gray or silver. In truth, on this side, nothing changes compared to the fourth generation iPad Pro. The recipe was already excellent, so it makes sense that the manufacturer decided to keep it for its iPad Pro 2021.

In terms of pure numbers, the third-generation iPad Pro weighs466 grams versus nearly 680 grams for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 5. Logically, the 11-inch iPad Pro is more compact than the iPad Pro 5 which has a larger diagonal. It's up to you to see which one suits you best, which can also come down to how much space is left in your backpack.

Here are the main camera components of the fifth generation iPad Pro:

  • a sensorgrand-angletwelve megapixels with f/1.8 aperture
  • a goalultra grand-angleten megapixels with f/2.4 aperture and 125° field of view
  • a radarLiDAR, also called ToF (forTime of Flightwhich meansflight timein English) dedicated to augmented reality apps, which also makes it possible to better measure distances in three dimensions

Note also that the fifth generation iPad Pro has azoomx2 rear optics, coupled with a digital zoom of up to 5x. It therefore allows you to take simple shots as well as macro photos. Let's finish with the imaging part by specifying that the iPad Pro 5 has a burst mode and a self-timer.

The fifth generation iPad Pro and its accessories

If you're buying a fifth or third generation iPad Pro, chances are it's for work. Apple thus presents it as a real desktop computer, notably thanks to the accessories that go with it. Among them, we can notably cite the famousMagic Keyboard. As the name suggests, this is a keyboard that adds all the necessary keys to the iPad Pro to make it as good as a Mac. But not only that, since it also includes a touchpad. It is also backlit, which makes the iPad Pro 5 easily usable with its keyboard even at night.

The fifth generation iPad Pro is also compatible with theApple Pencilsecond generation (but not the first). Which means that -as forthe fourth generation iPad Air– you can also use it for graphics. We also notice that there are many artists who opt for the iPad Pro (2021).

Screen: the most efficient to date?

The fifth generation iPad Pro is the first in its family to integrate a new type of screen: I named themini LED. This technology has several strings to its bow. Already, it allows the iPad Pro 5 to consume less energy. But above all, the contrasts are more faithful to reality. Add to that more vibrant colors, and you have exactly what businesses or movie fans are looking for.

The screen of the iPad Pro 2021 is also equipped with a120Hz refresh rate. Suffice to say that if you play Apple Arcade, the result will be there with fluid and responsive images. However, gamers will have to pay 4.99 euros per month to benefit from it. And more and more of them are leaning towards the fifth generation iPad Pro, because it is also compatible with external mice and keyboards. Furthermore, many publishers are starting to offer their flagship titles on the App Store, precisely by intending them for this use.

iPad Pro (2021): pure power

With its brand newM1 processor, the iPad Pro 5 has yet another reason to convince creators of particularly demanding apps. Especially when we know that the processor in question now supports5G, a new ultra-fast standard found among most consumer and B2B operators. The CPU of the fifth generation iPad Pro is designed by Apple, which then sends the plans to its subcontractor TSMC for assembly line production.

The M1 chip in the iPad Pro 2021 is coupled with8 or 16 GB of RAM. As for its graphics card, it was also designed by the brains from Cupertino. One more reason to trust the iPad Pro 5 for video games! According to Apple, the fifth generation iPad Pro is also much faster than the previous version. Which also seems to be true on a daily basis, if we are to believe most of the benchmarks published so far.

Battery life of the fifth generation iPad Pro

According to Apple, the fifth generation iPad Pro can last up toten o'clockin a row while remaining lit. Obviously, these figures are however likely to change depending on the use you make of your iPad Pro 5. Indeed, in full brightness or in direct sunlight, the number can then drop drastically. But the iPad Pro 2021 remains a very durable tablet, much more so than many of its competitors. There's no need to always remember to take the charger if you're only traveling for a few hours.

iPad Pro 5 connectors

Another new feature of the iPad Pro 5 is itscompatibility with the Thunderbolt 3 standard. This is made possible thanks to its latest generation USB-C socket, more practical than the Lightning port offered by some other iPads. The Smart Connector is also included to connect eligible keyboards. However, no 3.5 mm jack plug in the program. But Bluetooth connectivity should be enough: you can pair AirPods Max without worry. There is therefore the bare minimum in terms of connectivity on the iPad Pro 5: plan to have to buy adapters on the side.
