Vivaldi, the star browser, goes to version 6 for Macs

  • Vivaldi, a third-party browser for Mac, updates
  • Version 6.0 integrates theWorkspaces, similar to Safari tab groups
  • With this, users are entitled to an integrated email client and a customizable design

The third-party browser Vivaldi has just published its brand new version, numbered 6.0 and available now in final version. On the menu, the developer now offers to customize the software interface from top to bottom with the design of your choice, for example by revisiting the icons in Windows 95 style or with a much more minimalist appearance. With this, the editor launches theWorkspaces, a sort of tab group similar to Safari's eponymous feature.

Vivaldi 6.0 is available for Macs running at least macOS 10.13, which therefore includesle MacBook Air M2, the MacBook Pro M2 Pro and the iMac M1. It is also possible to install the program on machines running Windows or Linux and on smartphonesAndroid. The only downside, and not the least: no iOS client is offered to date. The creators of the app, however, specify that they are working on it, but without indicating a precise release date for the moment.

Safari VS Vivaldi

Among the advantages of Vivadi which are sorely lacking in Safari, a browser installed natively on all Macs today, we find in particular the possibility of positioning the tab bar wherever we want as well as aintegrated inboxfor emails. This is compatible with most current providers, including iCloud, Gmail, Outlook and Fastmail.

With this, Vivaldi integrates anative ad blockerand is compatible with extensions originally created for Google Chrome. On Safari, there are also third-party plugins to add to take advantage of additional features, but these are only in their infancy and startups continue to favor code for Blink. This rendering engine powers Chrome, Vivaldi, Brave, Opera and Microsoft Edge. Apple, for its part, prefers WebKit. This is its proprietary solution.

Performance, owned by Apple

Despite everything, Safari still continues to benefit from certain key advantages today, includingperfect integration with the Apple ecosystem. The app is therefore automatically available on all iPhones and iPads, in addition to PCs. As a bonus, Cupertino places emphasis on confidentiality, which is not always the case with the competition.

With this, Apple takes the opportunity to offer joint optimizations between the platform and its hardware, since theM1 and M2 chipsare “homemade”. The result is foolproof speed, despite, therefore, a certain delay in functionality.
