So, what is the Magic Keyboard? It's simple: it's an accessory for iPad (Pro only, but we'll come back to that later)4-in-1: in fact, in addition to serving as a keyboard, it also integrates a touchpad to serve as amousein iPadOS. But that's not all, since Magic Keyboard also serves ashullprotective: closed, its flap covers the iPad screen and thus defends it against potential attacks such as scratches. Last possible use: the unfolded Magic Keyboard serves as a workstation and holds the tablet in a horizontal position.

The Magic Keyboard charges with a portUSB-Cuniversal, connects to the iPad via theSmart Connectorand its keys use the scissor mechanism known for its efficiency and much better than the “butterfly” system abandoned by Apple in 2019.

Design

It must be said: the Magic Keyboard is a little gem. Its very elegant and dark appearance blends perfectly with the already very high-end character of the iPad Pro, even more so in the unfolded position. Indeed, in this way, the Magic Keyboard allows the iPad Pro to literally be suspended in the air. A taste ofperfection.

The Magic Keyboard is not compatible with all iPads

The Magic Keyboard's only major flaw: this accessory is simply notonly compatible with four iPadsFor now ! These are the following versions:

  • Fourth-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro
  • Third-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro
  • Second-generation 11-inch iPad Pro
  • First generation 11-inch iPad Pro

The iPad Pro's best friend?

Our test of the Magic Keyboard allowed us to see that it isthe ideal accessory for the iPad Pro. It is in fact more complete than other Apple keyboards, thanks to its integrated trackpad. Its design is also particularly successful. We can even say that thanks to the Magic Keyboard, you will be able toturn your iPad Pro into a computer: there is nothing missing to directly compete with these machines, especially since Macs have also switched to proprietary chips.

Unfortunately, this keyboard therefore does not work withthe most recent iPad Air, neither with the classic iPad, nor with the iPad mini. Furthermore, its relatively expensive price is quite off-putting: take into account339 euros for the model compatible with 11-inch iPads, compared to 399 euros for the largest. Finally, the Magic Keyboard is therefore the best keyboard for iPad, but targets a very specific audience: professionals ready to pay more than 1,000 euros for the duo it forms with the iPad Pro.
