In the latest edition of his weekly email, Mark Gurman, journalist and Apple specialist from Bloomberg, talked a lot about Macs.
The M2 chip, star of 2022
In confirmation of previous analyzes and rumors, Mark Gurman thinks that Apple is preparing an M2 chip, an evolution of the M1 launched in 2020. The new Apple silicon chip would be slightly more powerful than the previous generation. It would carry as many cores for the CPU part (contrary to what this analysis suggests), but would go from 7 to 8 or 9 cores for the GPU part.
In 2023, Apple would offer the M2 Pro and M2 Max versions for the most high-end Macs.
New Macs in March, May and June?
Still according to Mark Gurman, the Mac release schedule for the coming months would be busy. From March to June, the Californian firm could launch the following products:
- Mac mini with M2 and/or M1 Pro chip
- iMac 24″ with M2 chip
- iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip
- Mac Pro with one or two M1 Max chips
- MacBook Pro 13″ with M2 chip
- MacBook Air with M2 chip
An Apple conference should take place onnext Tuesday March 8. New Macs could be presented at the event. The latest rumors predicted new MacBook Pro and Air machines with M2 chip. The WWDC conference is generally dedicated to new Macs for professionals. It therefore seems consistent to us to see new iMac Pros, Mac mini Pros and Mac Pros arriving at this time.
Finally, the 24″ iMac with M2 chip could all come in the meantime, and join the range of Apple-branded computers following a simple press release. Or be introduced in March, during the expected keynote, it is also possible.
Among these machines, which one are you most looking forward to?
