Dodonpachi Blissful Death available on iPhone: effective but classic

While Cave
had announced to slow down its production of shoot'em ups on smartphones, here is everything
just like the editor specializing in the subject comes out to us this week
Dodonpachi Blissful Death, continuation of the previous Dodonpachi already
available, but still ten years old in arcades. Ships,
enemies, weapons, projectiles that flood the screen and big
boss: the menu hasn't really changed. It is both its strength and its
weakness.

And our mixed impressions:

Cave's shoots are always differentiated by small subtleties, which
whether on the atmosphere, the universe, the bestiary or other. But ultimately everyone
offer a multitude of small common points that could be summarized as
Basics of Japanese shoot'em up (quickly detailed in the paragraph above).
So yes, this Dodonpachi Blissful Death is perfectly adapted to the iPhone and
the touch screen responds to the finger and the eye. Yes, this episode offers a
even higher challenge than usual thanks to a difficulty level
“Hell” which will delight die-hard gamers. Yes, graphically it's cool and
the music is very nice (without remaining memorable). Yes,
it's great to have an editor who puts his excellent know-how in this area
serving the iPhone. But yes, we are also startinga little to turn in
around
.

Not that we are shying away from our pleasure: Cave's shoots are
always a very nice little guy, and the editor went there for a
very soft on the launch price with a small €3.99. It would be a shame
to miss out. But the general strength of shoot'em ups is also their great
variety inducing changes in game rules and opponent physics
and maneuverability of the ship and its arsenal: the display of Cave games
on the App Store does not reflect that and we have the impression of constantly playing
same recipe slightly varied.

While the excellent
Darius Burst
et
RayForce
are already available, Dodonpachi Bllissful Death seems a bit
bland, especially since the catalog of shoots risks further expanding these
coming months with adaptations of more ambitious hits.

It is therefore a little tricky to pout in front of the latest offspring of
Cave and yet it is impossible not to note the extreme redundancy of
the editor. We would tend to say that those who know Espgaluda II or
Dodonpachi Resurrection should go their way.. But at the same time it
It's difficult to ignore a shoot full of quality at only €3.99.

We like:
– Still as effective.
– Good shooting according to the rules of the art.
– Visually successful.
– An excellent challenge in “Hard” and “Hell” modes
– Really low launch price for a publisher who had accustomed us to
much more (€3.99)
– It works correctly zoomed in on iPad.

We like less:
– Between Dodonpachi Resurrection, Espgaluda and Bug Princess on iOS, we begin
to really go around in circles.
– Too square: lack of staging and audacity on all
plans.
– A little too short.
