Applemust announce its latest quarterly results this
Tuesday January 24 and, the least we can say is that everyone
agrees to predict record iPhone sales.
To support these predictions, we can citeNielsen
(relayed by
9to5mac) which has just published its latest study on sales of
smartphones between October and Christmas 2011.
Before going into detail in the rest of the post, we could
almost say: the months follow one another and are not alike.
If we are to believe Nielsen, Android only retains its 1st place in terms of
smartphone sales only a hair over Apple with the iPhone.
Indeed, ifAndroidstay ahead with
46,9%(against61.6% the previous quarter),
iOSwith its range ofiPhonecomes second with
44,5%(against25.1% the previous quarter)
smartphone sales.
We can therefore say that smartphonesAndroid et iOSont
represented91.4% of the market!
We can also see once again thedecline of RIM
which passes from7,7%has4,5%sales of
smartphones.
It seems obvious that the exit of theiPhone
4Sin October clearly boosted iPhone sales since it
represented57% of iPhone sales.
The expansion of the iPhone range has also paid off for Apple since
entry and mid-range models that are now the iPhone 3GS 8GB and
the iPhone 4 8GB have often been preferred to Android smartphones usually
cheaper and we estimate the volume ofsales at 32 million
d’iPhoneduring this last quarter.
For theoperating system, fewer surprises from this
side there sinceAndroidis still clearly in the lead with
NOW51,7%(46.3% per quarter
previous) in frontiOSwith37%
(30% the previous quarter) even if of course, the strong
iPhone sales have given better progressions for iOS.
Once again,Android et iOScrush the market
since they now represent88,7%of the market
mobile platforms whileRIM(BlackBerry) continue
fall from14.9% to 6%.
It will be interesting to see if this trend continues in 2012 where we
we are waiting more for a revolution than an evolution, as was the 4S, for the
next iPhone.
