When iPhone 12 buyers received their smartphone, many were unpleasantly surprised by a box that didn't containno more charger, unlike previous editions. The Apple Watch Series 6 also suffers the same fate. And this without taking into account the fact that the manufacturer has also chosen to apply this change to its old models, including the iPhone 11.
For those who already have the accessory at home, no problem according to Apple. It would be even more of an initiative “ecological“, aimed at reducing the mass of waste produced by the group. But surprisingly, the price of the phone has not been revised downwards... That was all it took for criticism to come from all sides. Including in Brazil, where iPhones are sold much more expensive than in the United States.
Warning and sanction
The decision to impose a fine of two million dollars (the equivalent of nearly 1.7 million euros) on Apple for this abusive practice was taken byProcon-SP, Brazilian equivalent of our CNIL. The organization also denounced the exaggeration of the water resistance provided by the manufacturer for its smartphones, even thoughrecent anecdotes contradict this.
According to its president, Fernando Capez, it would rather be a question ofmake an exampleand to warn Apple so that its managers decide to change strategy. Which is understandable, given the good performance of the firm's finances. In fact, during the last quarter alone, this has almost reached one hundred billion in revenue: a record never reached before.
A mess of accusations
In addition to not having agreed to repair iPhone 12s for free - although IP68 certified - following water damage, Apple is also being sued by the state of São Paulo following the famousbatterygate. We remember: at the time, some mobiles became inoperable due to reduced battery life following the iOS update. Finally, there are other clauses also judged “abusive” which are singled out, clearing Cupertino of any responsibility in the event of a technical problem.
