In May, Apple released an update for its AirPods Max headphones. This didn't offer much new, at least according to the official data provided by the manufacturer. But quickly, users realized a rather annoying detail: active noise reduction is notnot as effective as before.
Until now, however, the evidence in favor of this hypothesis was not corroborated by any precise measurement. It is now done. The siteRTings.comlooked into the case of this bug to find out what it is. And it turns out thatthis is not a bugprecisely, but it seems rather a deliberate maneuver by the manufacturer.
Hand in the bag
Indeed, by testing the latest version of the softwareAirPods Max, the independent laboratory of our colleagues has demonstrated that the accessory covers certain noises less well. However, this will depend on each person's hearing and the drop in quality is not constantly noticeable. Sounds such as car engines, airplanes or train travel are affected.
Apple will therefore have to explain itself. If it's a simple error, no problem: just publish apatchin the coming days. It is generally only a matter of hours before the developers of the Apple firm become aware of this type of incident. But if nothing changes, then disappointed users are already calling for a group action. Go to court?
Little difference to the untrained ear
We know that Apple has already been caught by the courts for having limited the performance of its iPhones with an update. This is the famousbatterygate, who had put millions of iPhone 6s in the closet to the point thatconsumers were sometimes able to be reimbursed.
This mishap, however, cost Cupertino's image a lot and it would be surprising if the company had not learned its lessons. In any case, the loss of quality of the active noise reduction of AirPods Max remains anecdotal for the moment. Indeed, at first glance, we do not always see the difference. Additionally, bug reports have not seen their number explode since the update. To be continued.
