Antitrust: Microsoft president targets App Store

This should be one of the highlights of the end of the month. On Monday July 27, the leaders of the Tech giants that areTim Cook, Jeff Bezos, Sundar Pichai ou encore Mark Zuckerbergwill be heard by the American Congress. Since last year, the House of Representatives has been interested in the practices, which some consider anti-competitive, of Facebook, Amazon, Google and Apple.

The App Store commission system is being singled out

Ahead of these hearings, the parliamentarians spoke a few weeks ago by videoconference with Brad Smith, the president of Microsoft, who also specializes in legal issues. They wanted to know his point of view on the subject, all the more relevant since Microsoft has already experienced major problems in the past regarding competition rules.

According to testimonies collected byThe Information, the manager was very critical of Apple and its behavior on the App Store. However, he did not criticize the actions of other companies. Brad Smith expressed his concerns about the Apple brand's application store and in particular about "the arbitrariness of Apple's practices in the approval process." He also pointed out in-app purchases which, thanks to commissions, bring in a lot of money for the Cupertino company. This is also why Spotifyfiled a complaintagainst the apple brand.

There is no doubt that the deputies are firmly awaiting the arrival of Tim Cook next week and will not fail to question him on this subject.
