We talked about it in this article, Bouygues Telecom, July 19, 2012,
had made a request to ARCEP (French regulatory authority)
in order to obtain the right to reallocate the use of the 1800MHZ frequency band
currently used for 2G (Edge). Normally the reallocation of this
band was planned for 2016. This frequency band beingcompatible
with the 4G chip of the iPhone 5.
Today, in a press release from ARCEP published at 6 p.m., the latter
allowedBouygues Telecom to use the 1800MHz band for 4G
from October 1, 2013(but until then a compatible iPhone 5S/6
with French 4G frequencies could have seen the light of day).
To have the right to use this frequency for 4G, Bouygues will have to
However, this is subject to a few obligations:
- It will have to pay a fee to the State which is to date not
encrypted.
- It will have to hand over part of its frequency band so that Free
Mobile can get some if she wants. (less than or equal to 23.8 MHz
duplex on October 1, 2013 then 20MHz on May 25, 2016)
- Orange and SFR may also make a request to
ARCEPin order to obtain the reallocation of their frequencies in
similar conditions.
