The new Samsung ViewFinity S9 5K display has just been released in the United States. This large twenty-seven-inch screen looks exactly like the design of theStudio Display d’Apple, and even has a camera for video calls. We can therefore see this as an excellent external monitor for Mac, with many models being compatible, such as the 14-inch MacBook Pro or the 16-inch MacBook Pro.
Three USB ports are included to associate image sources with the device, also with a Thunderbolt output. This standard is developed by Intel and Apple andcould also land, soon, on high-end iPhones.
Comparison with Studio Display
For comparison, Apple's Studio Display offers no less than four USB-C sockets, one of which is Thunderbolt 3 compatible. The latter is also used for power, thanks to a 96 watt power supply. As for the resolution, this reaches the excellent score of 5,120 by 2,880 pixels, a figure identical to that achieved by the new Samsung ViewFinity S9 5K – hence its name.
But where Apple's Studio Display only works with difficulty, Samsung's monitor, for its part, is powered by an operating system allowing many third-party apps to be installed without connecting a central processing unit. There are, for example, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix or even YouTube and the Apple TV app. Moreover, the AirPlay wireless communication system offered by the Apple firm is compatible with ViewFinity.

Price and availability
Samsung's ViewFinity S9 5K is available in South Korea and the United States, but we do not yet know its release date in France. The price, however, is set at $1,599.99 across the Atlantic, or a little less than 1,500 euros at the current exchange rate.
You can also find the ViewFinity S9 5K on Amazon, but success already seems to be there: the device is out of stock. As for the Studio Display, several resellers already offer it for sale in France. Here is a quick comparison of the prices currently being charged for the most affordable model:
