It's not always easy to arrive and visit a new city without knowing the different ways to get around there. So of course, you can pick up the paper map of the city at the nearest reception point, but in terms of practicality, we have seen better. In 2024, there is indeed much simpler: the appCitymapperon iOS.
The latter brings together plans and directions for public transport in different major cities around the world. Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Hamburg, Sydney, etc. Several dozen cities from all countries are registered in Citymapper, with new localities regularly added. It was enough to include it in our series“Holidays in apps”.
Citymapper, the reference for city transport
In each of the available cities, we find the map of the different public transport, buses, metro, trams, bicycle stations, trains, etc. The app then works like any good navigation app, you enter your starting point and your arrival point (current location, address, etc.), you choose your mode of transport and let yourself be guided.

In addition to this reactive indication adapted to a specific route, the app includes all the maps of the city's public transport lines. Additional information is visible if necessary (traffic schedules, days of inactivity, etc.), while a map for each city provides an overview of the closest stations.

In short, Citymapper is an applicationultra-complete, useful for getting around the city and more easily understanding the often complex public transport networks.

The only condition to benefit from it is to have the city in question registered in Citymapper, which is not always the case. Despite everything, there are already a good number of them, including many in capitals. For absent cities, you will have to turn to an application targeting the city in question, the official apps of which are not always well done unfortunately.

Happy holidays to those who enjoy it!
