It's no longer a secret: the European Commission, notably under the leadership of its Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, is trying to move theanti-competitive practicesGAFAM. Among their leitmotifs,we find the defense of user privacybut also the desire to offer fairer services to publishers, for whom standing out among the multitude of content offered online is now very difficult.
One of the platforms in question is theApp Store: difficult to know how the algorithm works which classifies applications precisely, and therefore to guess what strategy to put in place to be suggested to visitors. Moreover,When Apple takes action following a suspected violation of its terms of service, the consequences can be severe.
What's new?
To overcome these problems, the European Union has therefore passed the following regulations:
- a notification must be sent to developers at least thirty days before their application is removed from the App Store by Apple,
- Apple must now bemore transparentby clearly detailing the preferential treatment of the App Store,
- and finally amediatorexternal will be responsible for resolving conflicts that cannot be resolved by the App Review.
These directives come a few days after the start ofa European investigation into Apple methods.
