At the WWDC 2017 conference
summarized here
, drowned in the flood of numerous new releases as well
hardware than software, an interesting announcement is a little past
unnoticed. This is theupdating AirPlay to AirPlay 2
which nevertheless changes a lot of things in terms of audio streaming via WiFi.
Indeed, this new version AirPlay 2, technology used in particular by
the new HomePod speaker now integrates into HomeKit to link everything
compatible speaker, with Apple's connected objects platform. From the
Likewise, this will make it possible to manage multi-room audio configurations,
increasingly the standard in the connected home field:

AirPlay 2 is therefore the evolution of AirPlay, which is a protocol for exchanging
data usable between Apple devices and compatible receivers. AirPlay 2
now allows you to integrate speakers directly into HomeKit.

Thus, it is then possible to gain configuration possibilities in
the management of devices connected in AirPlay 2, which will notably be
practical for multi-room installations.

Audio broadcasting could, for example, be controlled from an iPhone
and directed to only one speaker out of the 4 installed in his house, with a
Independent volume control to each speaker.

Also, this Airplay 2 could make it possible to share access to
playlists playing for streaming to the multiroom system of the
home, so that each member of the family has an iPhone or iPad running
iOS 11, for example, can make your musical preferences heard.

Apple announced several major audio partners
general public regarding compatibility with AirPlay 2, such as Beats, Bang
& Olufsen, Denon, Devialet, and others. Bose would also be there
and could even update its current Wi-Fi speakers to AirPlay
2.

Because depending on the case, a simple update of the internal software of the speaker
should be enough to switch to AirPlay 2, if there is still compatibility
at the hardware level.

At Apple, the Apple TV 4 should be AirPlay 2 compatible,
while this would certainly not be the case for the AirPort Wi-Fi router
Express, left aside by Apple according torecent
rumors
. However, a new version of a product of this type could
see the light of day soon, with support for AirPlay 2.
