Earlier this year, Apple stopped
to produce its own screens and announced in October the sale of screens
manufactured in collaboration with LG.
After this choice, it is the turn of the AirPort terminals most likely
join the cemetery of products abandoned by Apple. According to a report from
Bloomberg, which cites internal sources,Apple would have stopped the
development of its AirPort WiFi terminalsand redistributed its
teams.
After years of frequent updates to AirPort WiFi hotspots, these
last had not changed since 2013. This can now be explained by the
fact that Apple would have gradually closed the division which takes care of these
wireless router products.
The engineers who were responsible for the development of AirPort WiFi terminals have
been reassigned to other teams and in particular to that in charge ofApple TV.
The Cupertino company nevertheless still sells three models of its routers
wireless: the AirPort Express, the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Time capsule,
but the latter should therefore no longer receive updates if these
indiscretions are confirmed.
To be confirmed in the coming weeks.
