iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro (2022): latest rumors report

What you need to know to begin with is that the very name “iPhone 14” is not safe. Apple could indeed very well choose to call its future flagship iPhone 13s or iPhone 13S, a nomenclature which certain ranges such as the iPhone X and the iPhone 6 have already tasted in the past.

But depending on the screen sizes that we will see below, we are rather counting on the following brands, which are favored by most of the rumors of the moment:

• iPhone 14
• iPhone 14 Max
• iPhone 14 Pro
• iPhone 14 Pro Max

Software: iOS 16

If Apple does not deviate from its habits, the iPhone 14 will be powered by iOS 16. We already know everything this version will contain:the full feature list is available here.

It is also rumored that a VR headset from Apple is in the works for 2023. If it sees the light of day, the 2K screen of the iPhone 14 could then very well act as a display for the device.

iPhone 14 Connectivity and Charging

The iPhone 14 could be equipped with a modemWi-Fi 6E. Already present on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, this component announced by Ming-Chi Kuo (75.9% of hypotheses verified according toAppleTrack) would then bring several advantages to the 2022 iPhone such as faster file transfers.

On the socket side, the owner's plugLightningwould still be there. Europe is trying to put an end to what it considers to be an ecological aberration in favor of the universal standard of USB-C, but Apple is not yet abandoning its in-house alternative despite its zero emissions objective for 2030. It However, it is rumored that an iPhone will soon be devoid of any charging port, in favor of wireless only. But it will probably not be the iPhone 14, the rumors instead focusing on its successors here.

Nothing on increased autonomy for the moment, but thereverse chargingcould arrive with the iPhone 14 with also a MagSafe magnet more resistant to movements, less likely to come loose. Also note that Apple is developing a version of the iPhone 14 without a SIM card, only compatible with the eSIM digital format. However, this would only be a test, most models remaining equipped with the classic SIM port.

Photo rumors

According to a hypothesis supported by orders for spare parts from LG Innotek instead of its competitor Samsung, Apple is preparing lenses called “periscopes“. In short, this is a foldable zoom technology that allows you to integrate large sensors into small formats. This is how a future iPhone would then be equipped with a 10x zoom, an ideal continuation of the telephoto lens already present on iPhone 13 and which even recommends ophthalmologist Tommy Korn. Unfortunately, Kuo is banking on the iPhone 15 Pro here, with 48 megapixels on the clock: subcontractors are not yet ready for the iPhone 14.

The iPhone 14s could also remove one of their LEDs dedicated to the flash on the back, thanks to a better aperture to capture more light naturally. THEgrand-anglewould also be 21.5% wider. And on the front, FaceTime would offer autofocus, which is not the case today.

Performance penalized

All rumors regarding the iPhone 14 processor logically point toTSMC(Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) as supplier. This takes care of ARM Apple silicon chips (iPad, iPhone, Mac) and nothing should change for the occasion. Its logistics chain, however, would be slowed down by various factors including a shortage of equipment, the coronavirus pandemic or even the geopolitical context on the island of Taipei according toThe Information(scoreAppleTrack: 90,9%).

Rather than improving - like every year - by reducing its engraving fineness, planned to go from five to three nanometers according to the local sourceDigiTimes(58.3%) or four forNikkei Asia, the founder would then risk beingblockedat the same stage by the time the 2022 iPhone is ready.

However, the iPhone 14 should not be slowed down, given that the iOS optimizations have more than enough to compensate if necessary. As for RAM, it stagnates at6 Gofor the Pro since the iPhone 12 is well below other brands for the same price, it is easy to assume that its quantity will be revised upwards, but nothing is less certain. The “classic” iPhone 14 can therefore just as easily make do with 4 GB as for the iPhone 13.

With this, the chipA16 Bionic would be reserved for iPhone 14 Prowhile the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max would make do with the same A15 Bionic chip as today. But with potentially 2 GB more RAM, the speed would still improve, including for the most affordable iPhone 14s.

iPhone 14: the screens

If there is one rumor about the iPhone 14 that everyone seems to agree on, it is that of its different versions and therefore their respective diagonals. We would thus be entitled to the following quartet, with a better size/screen ratio each time and inalways-on(always on) like on Apple Watch:

• 6.12 inches for the basic iPhone 14
• 6.12 inches for iPhone 14 Pro
• 6.69 inches for iPhone 14 Max
• 6.69 inches for iPhone 14 Pro Max

No iPhone 14 mini, therefore, the fault of sales that are too low for the current compact editions.

Note that according to another rumor published this time byThe Elec(75%), LTPO technologyProMotionwhich allows the broadcast image to be refreshed up to 120 times per second would be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro. As forthe iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, there again. The classic 2022 iPhones, for their part, would make do with OLED panels limited to 60 Hz and without the latest generation of components (M12) that Samsung would also reserve for the iPhone 14 Pro.

Ming-Chi Kuo also specifies that Touch ID under the screen will not be available with the iPhone 14, but perhaps for a next generation device.

Finally, even if it is unlikely to see Apple launch into the foldable iPhone market in 2022, the question still arises for the following year. Indeed, although these smartphones are still too expensive and their long-term future is relatively unclear, we are not immune to an upcoming democratization as Cupertino likes to do so well (Watch, AirPods, Face ID, etc.). Corning and Foxconn, two major subcontractors of the company, are already testing prototypes while the latter is multiplying patents unequivocally in this sense. So it's not just a rumor...

What storage for the iPhone in 2022?

For the siteMyDrivers, the iPhone 14 (Pro?) would shipup to 2 TBof storage where the articles preceding it are satisfied with 1 TB maximum. To do this, Apple would use QLC flash storage, tofour-level cell. A real innovation for:

• download and read files faster
• save space for final assembly
• save on production costs

But be careful, because here too no additional information concerning the reliability of this rumor has reached us until now.

For the basic models, the indices contradict each other: some bet on 128 GB as for the iPhone 13, others on double with 256 GB in order to justify a higher base price.

iPhone 14 design: rumors

For @LeaksApplePro on Twitter, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max which could see the light of day in fall 2022 will finally abandon their protruding notch in favor of a camera inpunch, like on Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G for example. THEnotchwould however be retained for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. The clipping would be twofold: one for the FaceTime HD camera and the second for the Face ID TrueDepth sensor.

To finish with the appearance, Mark Gurman (Bloomberg, 87% accuracy) at the end of 2021 bet on a complete overhaul of the format of the iPhone 14 compared to the 2021 versions. The investment bank JPMorgan goes even further and is betting on a titanium version! Since the second quarter of 2022, however, concepts and other industrial design leaks have focused on a format almost identical to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 with simply alarger rear photo sensor.

More precisely, users would be entitled to 4.17 mm of thickness with the iPhone 14 Pro Max compared to 3.6 mm on the iPhone 13 Pro Max. For width and length, the dimensions would be 36.24 mm x 38.21 mm compared to 35.01 x 36.73 previously.

For the colors of the official silicone cases, here is one of the latest and most reliable data sets: dark blue, white, pink, red, light purple, yellow, dark purple, navy blue. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro, for their part, would remain available in six colors with green, yellow, red, light blue, blue and salmon pink (information signed by the Frenchman @ihacktu).

Prix

The price of 2022 iPhones would unfortunately be announcedupwards, 10 to 15% more expensive, i.e. 999 euros or approximately 1,049 euros for the base model. The price has in fact not changed from the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 13, but the delivery delays in Asia seen above or the multiple fines worth billions of euros condemning Apple (anti-competitive behavior, security, consumer rights) do not help.

Currently, the cheapest iPhone is the iPhone 13 mini with a price of 809 euros on the counter. But as the compact format would be on its way out, looking at the price of the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 is more judicious: it is set at 909 euros. Add 91 euros… And the symbolic bar of1 000 eurosfor your iPhone 14 can be crossed. This is what most analysts have indicated since inflation and the second wave of COVID in China, even if some remain cautious.

Apple is currently considering this.

Production costs are increasing and there has to be more than a $100 difference between the 14 Max and the 14 Pro.

Makes sense to me and wouldn’t expect changes.

We can also imagine a pack with iPhone 14, Apple One package and VR headset for a higher price. But this will depend on the actual release date of the latter, especially since recent clues about it predict that it will be autonomous, with its own screen... Note also the recent arrival of payments in 24 installments for the iPhone , which coincides with other rumors that Apple is preparing to offeriPhone 14 with monthly subscriptionrather than a single purchase for reduced budgets.

Bonus: release date

The keynote presentation of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro would be planned forSeptember 6. It is then only a matter of days before the smartphones are offered in stores and on the Apple Online Store. In general, the deadline is one week if there is no delay with the suppliers.
