iPhone 13: Apple receives a new fine in Brazil

Like a sense of déjà vu. Last March, Procon-SP, the Brazilian consumer protection agency, fined Apple $1.9 million for not providing a charger with the iPhone 12. The Apple brand was also required to provide an adapter to any person who requests one.

Brazilian authorities are firm with Apple

Six months later, do it again. Procon-SP has just announced that it was going to impose a new fine on the Tech giant for the absence of a charger on the iPhone 13. Quoted byAppleInsider, Fernando Capez, executive director of the agency, makes no secret of his position:

The consumer already expects to receive the charger at the same time as the smartphone. Breaking this routine can also involve an unjustified increase in price. For example, you sell the device with the charger for X. Then you only sell the device for X, which means the company has increased the price.

He adds: “We can compare this to going to a supermarket. The customer purchased a 400 gram product for 20 reais. Now the same product continues to cost R$20, but with 300 grams. The company can reduce the quantity, but it is necessary to stamp this information on the packaging so that the consumer is aware.»

In the past, the agency has not hesitated to point the finger at Samsung for violating this law. However, the South Korean firm has not yet been sanctioned because it has agreed to provide chargers free of charge with the Galaxy S21.

Apple is in any case not spared by the Brazilian authorities. It must in fact be remembered that the state of São Paulo decided in the pastto continuethe company in the context of batterygate. As a reminder, this scandal concerned certain laptops that became inoperable following the iOS update.
