In a letter addressed publicly to the
NHTSA, the agency responsible for road safety in the United States,
Steve Knower, a high-ranking product quality manager
at Apple has proposed different points and changes to be taken into account by
relation to automobiles and road driving. The idea is to pose the
best possible basesfor good development and
calm welcome of autonomous cars on the roads. One more proof
supportinga very active Apple Car program:
In his letter, Kenner develops interesting ideas in relation to
the evolution of the consumer automotive world with the development of cars
autonomous.
In particular, he suggests that the NHTSA consider3 ethical points
very importantfor the good development of the car
autonomous: the question of the implications of decision-making not
human, the question of mobility and finally that of legality.
In addition to this, we find questions related to the use
private data and sharing of user information, but also
to the safety of driverless vehicles and their construction, and finally to the
consequences on employment and market change.
It is therefore with this report that Apple confirms a little morehis desire
of involvement in the field of autonomous automobiles. To such an extent
that Kenner even specifies the approach that the firm would consider as a player
of the driverless car market.
For Apple, data sharing must remain anonymous, without violating the
privacy of users, and must be open to any manufacturer or
developer involved in autonomous driving technologies.
In this way, it would also beeasier to integrate
automobile market for interested potentials, what are
precisely firms like that of Tim Cook, or even the giant Google.
Without really knowing yet how Apple will integrate the domain into
question, the Apple Car projectis definitely no longer of the order of
the rumor.
