Apple files two patents for the Vision Pro

The Apple firm continues to work on its mixed reality headset. As a reminder, it should be released in a few monthspriced at $3499at Uncle Sam's.

On November 16, we shared with you two videos that the Apple company published for its developers who were already lucky enough to be able to use the headset. The first showed users hownavigate the VisionOS interface, and we learned that we ultimately had to use our fingers to click, accompanied by a look in the direction of the place where we wanted to make the click. We were a little disappointed to discover that it didn't seem to be possible to click just by blinking.

The second video was about how it is possible to configure a 3D avatar of ourselves. This is to be able to make video calls without our interlocutor seeing us wearing the headset, but also to be able to authenticate us. Apple has just filed two patents on this subject. One concerns Optic ID, as well as its registration system.Optic ID replaces Touch ID or Face ID for identification.

Eye tracking and biometric authentication

The patents relate to innovations developed by Apple, allowing headset users to aim at an element using their eyes, but also to identify themselves. The first patent first deals with the eye tracking system and its various applications, and the second discussesthe same subject, but applied to the Apple Vision Pro.

The Apple firm explains to us in the latter that the device they have developed uses unique biometric characteristics to recognize a person, or to follow their gaze. Regarding eye tracking, which allows you to navigate in VisionOS, it usesmainly cameras and sensorsin order to precisely determinea person's point of view.

As for biometric authentication, it is possible by analyzing certain specificities which are specific to each human being. Like for exampleveins present in the eyes, or eventhe singularities of the peri-orbital region(area around the eyes).
