For several years now, the
Cupertino company designs its own “Ax” processors for its products under
iOS. Little by little, the Californian firm would aim to design everything in-house
to optimize software and hardware in the best possible way, in order to
offer ever more efficient machines.
We have seen that the Apple firm has launched into the design of chips
graphics, but also components managing energy and battery.
Recently, according to a new Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman,
Apple would develop its own MicroLED screens, to equip
to begin withl’Apple Watch et ensuite l’iPhone.
According to this report, Apple would have itsown mini manufacturing plant
MicroLED screenswith a surface area of 6,000 square meters located 15
minutes from its Apple Park headquarters. Inside,300
engineersare working on the next MicroLED screen technology,
the successor to OLED, a technology currently present on the iPhone
X.
Next to this factory, another establishment would work on the
development of technologies allowing individual pixels to be placed in
a MicroLED screen. These technologies were acquired withthe redemption of the
LuxVue companyin 2014, which specializes in technologies
small LED screens.
Micro-LED screen technology featuresseveral
benefitson the OLED:lightness, finesse, but also
better energy management. However, no manufacturer
still masters this technology, and Apple could be the first thanks
in particular to large investments made in the field.
Currently, the small MicroLED screen manufacturing factory would be
capable of producinga number of screens for Apple
Watch, but for testing only, the technology is not yet
perfectly to the point according to the source.
Having its own microfactory would allow Apple to keep
secrecy about its screen technologies until the last moment. Once the
manufacturing process will be well validated in its own establishment, it
will be deployed on a large scale among subcontractors for production of
greater magnitude.
According to the Bloomberg report, MicroLED screen technology
would disembarkfirst in the Apple Watch, then would arrive
then in the flagship product,l’iPhone. But given the
difficulty of the project, it could take3 to 5 years before seeing
arrive the MicroLED screen in the Apple smartphone.
In 2015, the Apple Watch was Apple's first product to incorporate
OLED technology, and the iPhone X in 2017 was their first model in the range to
switch to an OLED display.
While waiting for the arrival of the MicroLED screen, Apple will equip all of its
next iPhone or almost with OLED. In fact, of the three models planned
this year, two models would have an OLED screen and another entry-level
would stay with an LCD screen, according tothe latest rumors on the
subject.
