Last week, the FBI abandoned
lawsuits against Apple to force them to create software allowing them
unlock any iPhone in connection with the San Bernardino attack.
Indeed, a third party iscame to their aidto provide them with a method to
to access the machine without erasing the contents and without knowing the password
passe.
Apple is of course curious about this method, but was unable to
know in the context of the trial since it was abandoned.
However, the Cupertino company could quickly find and correct the
loophole used by the FBI because since then, the latter has helped law enforcement
several states to unlock iPhones at the heart of several other cases
criminal. At the same time, the method has just been explained to a first
member of the US Senate, before another soon becomes aware of it.
By sharing the hack with other services, the FBI is increasing
the chances of it leaking, and so Apple takes
knowledge, which will very quickly lead to a corrective update
d’iOS.
The lawyers in charge of the different cases and who examine the
different pieces/evidence of the files coming from iPhone unlocked by this
method, could alsoprovide information on the process
employeeby law enforcement, and therefore that of the FBI.
Finally, we cannot exclude the possibility that the company or third party
having sold this method to the FBI, can sell it to another agency,
company or country. The more widespread and used this flaw is, the better
are the chances for Apple to find it and correct it in a future
iOS update.
At the same time, it is impossible to know at this stage whether the crack of the smartphone
San Bernardino Killers Uncovered Some Interesting Information
for the investigation.
Update: we have just learned that the method used is not
only compatible with the iPhone 5c under iOS 9, according to
the same FBI.
